Insurance for High Risk Sports
Some examples of hazardous pastimes and sports are:
- Scuba Diving
- Rock Climbing
- Sailing
- Private Aviation
- Motor Sports
- Extreme Sports
For policies such as Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection, hazardous pursuits can have a large impact on the cost and terms of cover. This is because insurance companies are concerned with the increased risk of illness, or in certain circumstances death, that come hand in hand with certain dangerous sports and activities.
It is unusual for you not to be able to get cover at all due to hazardous pastimes or sports, however it is likely that a policy could come with a higher premium or an exclusion for your activity. For Life Insurance there are some insurance providers who can exclude activities like private aviation and motor sports from your policy’s claimable list. They will normally offer to include them too… for a cost. Plans such as Income Protection are much more likely to simply exclude any dangerous activities and sports you do when you apply for cover.
What Will the Insurers Need to Know?
- The type of hazardous activity / sport you take part in
- How often you take part in the activity / sport
- The extent / degree / severity that you partake in
- If you have any qualifications or if you are part of any national association to do with your activity / sport
- Where you take part in the activity / sport
- If you are involved in competitions
How Cura can Help?
As there are a range of insurance companies in the UK, all with different acceptance criteria and prices, it is essential that your cover be placed with the right one. Some policies may have exclusions that relate to hazardous pastimes and some may increase premiums to cover the extra risk. In some situations however you might be able to find the insurance at a standard premium with no exclusions and no price increase.
Speaking with one of our insurance advisers that can fully research the insurance market for you, is a great way to make sure that you get the vital insurance that you need, at competitive terms.
Here at the Cura we have years of experience in placing cover for people with hazardous pastimes. For a free quote please call us on 0800 567 7450 or request a quotation online.
