Motor Sports & Life Insurance
Motor sports can be thrilling but also a potentially risk thing to do. We have the Oliver’s Mount road race circuit close by to us, which is the only natural road race track in England.
If you are taking part in motor sports as part of a hobby then you can find that life insurance is offered at standard rates. But there are times when the choice of insurer is essential so that your premiums don’t shoot up.
We will usually ask you these questions so we can do our research:
- What motor sport do you do?
- How often do you do this?
- Are you taking part in competitions?
- Are you doing this in the UK or abroad?
There are other questions that we might ask you once we know what you are doing. For example if you are riding a motorbike we are going to ask you what size engine it is.
The terms that you are offered for life insurance can be affected by the sport that you do. This usually means an increase to the monthly premium and you could hear the words non-standard or special terms.
We do have access to some insurance policies where your sporting activities will not affect the pricing of your life insurance. There are very specific sets of circumstances where this is available and our team will let you know if this is possible for you.
Our award winning advisers will find the right insurer and best life insurance for you.
Motor Sports & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover might be available at normal terms for you depending upon the sport you are doing, how often you’re doing it and if there are any competitions.
Motor sports is more risky than not doing motor sports. You can find that some insurers place an exclusion on a specific part of critical illness cover. This is one claimable condition called Total Permanent Disability.
Critical illness policies often cover you for at least 60 different claimable conditions and whilst having an exclusion on one isn’t great, there are still many things that you are insured for.
Our expert advisers will find the best critical illness policy to match you and your hobby.
Motor Sports & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection for people doing motor sports may be available at standard rates. Insurers will want to know if you have ever been injured due to your hobby, and this can affect the terms you are offered.
If you have had multiple injuries in the past due to your motoring activities, it is possible that your income protection policy may come with an exclusion.
Our advisers will listen to you and your needs to make sure that you can see the best options to protect your income.
Motor Sports & Travel Insurance
For those who are travelling abroad and wanting to drive for leisure or sport, care should be taken that the correct insurance is in place. Make sure that your UK driving licence permits you to drive the vehicle you will be using. For more details see our specialist travel page here.

Common Questions
Hi, some insurers are not too bothered about using a motorcycle for commuting, but it’s really important to choose the right one for you. Some insurers can increase the premium quite highly if you use a motorbike.
