Hang Gliding & Life Insurance
Hang gliding can be quite a thrill and we often see people in our town of Filey, enjoying a flight from the cliff tops over the sea in the summer.
Hang gliders life insurance for people doing a one-off event will generally be accepted at standard terms.
To make sure that this is the case our advisers will ask you:
- How often are you hang gliding?
- Are you a member of a national association?
- Are you a qualified instructor?
- Are you taking part in hang gliding competitions?
- Are you hang gliding in the UK or abroad?
If you are doing this purely as a hobby on an every now and then basis, it is likely that life insurance will be available to you at standard terms with most insurers. For people that take part in regular flights the life insurance policy might be offered at special terms.
This means that the insurer will increase your premiums for the additional risk that they see from the hang gliding. Life insurance is generally very cheap so whilst a premium increase is always nice to avoid, it doesn’t necessarily mean silly prices.
Our expert advisers are here to find the right insurer and best life insurance for you.
Hang Gliding & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness insurance for hang gliders is viewed under slightly stricter underwriting guides than life insurance. If you are doing a single flight as a bit of a holiday experience or birthday treat, critical illness cover can often be available at ordinary rates.
If you are a qualified instructor, member of an accredited association and your number of flights per year is not seen as too high risk by insurers, you may also be able to source critical illness cover at standard terms.
But it’s possible that people that are regularly hang gliding might see that critical illness cover is offered at special terms, in which any illness caused by your gliding will be excluded from the policy claims set.
There are many conditions that are covered by a critical illness policy that are not linked to any unfortunate events that might happen from your hang gliding. An exclusion is always going to sound negative and if you are offered this our advisers will go through this with you, so that you can make a decision that feels right to you.

Hang Gliding & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection for hang gliders can be accepted at normal terms, if you pick the right insurer.
When you apply for income protection it will be important to detail any injuries you have had from your hobby, as this can alter the range of policies available to you.
If you have had anything like a torn ligament or broken bone, these can sometimes lead to exclusions, depending upon how recently they happened. These exclusions are sometimes permanent or they may last for a set period of time.
Our award winning advisers will find the right insurance policy to protect your income.

Common Questions
Hi, it’s very unlikely that a one-off like this will have any affect on applications for life insurance, critical illness cover or income protection. It’s always worth checking and speaking to an adviser can help you to feel confident that you’ve answered the insurers questions correctly.
