Horse Riding & Life Insurance
I haven’t been on a horse since I was a little girl, but I remember how exciting it was and how terrified my mum was as I spun around on top without a care in the world.
Life insurance for horse riders will often be accepted at normal terms. But there are times that insurers will want to know some more details and these can affect the terms that you are offered.
To double check this our advisers will ask you:
- How often are you horse riding?
- Do you take part in competitions?
- Is your horse riding just private hacking?
- Are you performing dressage?
- Are you show jumping?
- Is your horse riding in the UK or abroad?
The type of horse riding that you do may need to be disclosed on your life insurance application. Insurers are often not bothered if you are just doing wandering with your horse in your local area, as a hobby to get away and clear your mind.
If your horse riding has any professional activities or if you take part in competitions or show jumps, then the insurer may offer your life insurance at non-standard terms. This would be an increase to the life insurance premium. Life insurance premiums are very low to start off with and a price increase is not something any of us wants to hear, but the increases are usually far less than you expect.
Our award winning advisers will find the best life insurance to meet your needs.
Horse Riding & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover for horse riders is also often available at normal terms.
Horse riders critical illness insurance applications may see an exclusion on one of the claimable conditions on the policy that is known as total permanent disability (TPD). This exclusion may be applied if you are a frequent horse rider or take part in more hazardous aspects of the sport such as competitions and show jumps. TPD is just one condition out of a policy claims set that usually has 60 or more conditions that you can potentially claim on. It’s never nice to have an exclusion, but there are still many situations that the policy is protecting you for.
Our expert advisers will find the right insurer and best critical illness policy to match you and your hobby.
Horse Riding & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
When you are a horse rider, insurance applications for income protection will often be considered at normal terms. This means no premium increases or exclusions.
This is most likely if you have not experienced any injuries in the past.
As an example if you fallen in the past and sprained your ankle, it could be that there is an exclusion relating to claims for that foot on your policy.
Our advisers will make sure that you are offered the best terms possible for income protection.

Common Questions
Hi, with things like life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection it’s often a good idea to get them in place as soon as possible. The reason being is that the younger you are the cheaper the premiums will be. Plus there are a lot of things that can develop health wise that can alter the terms that you will be offered, and the longer you wait the more time there is for these things to develop. You might not need all of these insurances right now, but it’s always worth chatting to an adviser that can explain what you do and don’t need.
