Bodybuilders & Life Insurance
Body building is seen as a key way to build strength within your body and reach high levels of physical fitness. You would think that this would make getting insurance easier, but sometimes it can make things trickier.
One of the main reasons for this is that people that are bodybuilders often have a higher BMI, with muscle weighing more than fat. The insurers systems are not typically designed to take this into account. Depending upon your BMI it might be that a specific chat with the insurer needs to take place to talk about this in more detail.
When you speak with us we will be asking you:
- What is your height?
- What is your weight?
- Have you used any steroids in the past as part of your bodybuilding routine?
Life insurance for people that do weight training is often available at normal terms. This means that they will not be changing the premium for the policy, if your BMI falls within certain levels. Some insurers start increasing premiums for life insurance once your BMI is at 30, so it’s important to research which one is best for you. This is where our advisers can really help you.
Our award winning advisers will find the right insurer and best life insurance policy for you.
If you have used any non-prescribed drugs such as anabolic steroids your life insurance application will need to be placed with specific insurers. Please refer to our drug use page for further details.
Bodybuilders & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
In a similar way to life insurance, critical illness insurance is often available at normal terms for people that do weightlifting or bodybuilding.
Your BMI can affect the price the insurance company offer, so the choice of insurer is essential for you. Once your BMI is at 30 you could find that some insurers will offer rated premiums, which means that they will be increasing the policy premiums.
Our expert advisers will speak with the insurers on your behalf and explain that your BMI is higher due to your fitness, so that you can get the best terms for critical illness cover.
Bodybuilders & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection cover can often be available for people who weight lift or body build. In fact many insurers will not ask about it so long as it is in a non-competitive scenario.
If you do take part in any competitions this can come up in the application. Some insurers will be ok about this, some will be a bit cautious about what terms they can offer you.
A key thing that the insurers will want to know is if you have had any physical injuries in the past due to your bodybuilding or other activities. This would be things like back pain, torn ligaments and broken bones.
Injuries like these can often lead to exclusions on income protection. These exclusions can sometimes be in place for the whole of the policy or just for a set period of time.
Our advisers will listen to your needs and find the right insurer and income protection policy to match you.
Bodybuilders & Healthy Living Insurance
There are some insurers that allow you to earn rewards and reduce your premiums if you are fit and active. They do this by asking you to submit data about your daily steps and your heart rate when you work out.
It might be that this will work well for you and you can find out more in our healthy living page.
