Thailand & Life Insurance
Travelling to Thailand is incredibly exciting with such a rich culture and history that is on many people’s bucket list of holiday destinations.
Most UK insurers should offer life insurance to individuals traveling to Thailand for holiday at standard terms.
To check your life insurance options we will ask:
- When are you going to Thailand?
- How long will you be staying in Thailand for?
- Is your trip for a holiday or work?
If you plan to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, insurers may request additional details about your trip. They want to check if you are going to remain a UK resident so that they can make sure that you are eligible to take out the cover with them.
You might find that your life insurance is available at non-standard terms if you are travelling to Thailand regularly for work trips or planning any high risk sports whilst you are there.
Our advisers are dedicated to finding the right life insurance policy for you, ensuring your loved ones’ financial security if you were to pass away.
If you are traveling to Thailand for activities like mountaineering, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, or diving, please check out our specialised sports pages.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover can often be arranged at standard terms for trips to Thailand. General holidays and short business trips of less than 7 days don’t usually cause any concerns for insurers.
For holidays to Thailand lasting longer than 30 days and regular work trips, insurers may ask for additional details about the reasons of your stay in Thailand.
As with life insurance, if you plan to do extreme sports while in Thailand, you will usually need to fully disclose these activities in your critical illness application. Depending on the insurer, you may find that doing high-risk sports will result in non-standard terms for critical illness cover.
Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection is usually available on standard terms for short stays in Thailand. Insurers will ask about your job and specific work tasks, especially if your trip to Thailand is work-related.
If you’re travelling to Thailand for work, you may be asked how much time you’ll spend outside the UK each year. If you are spending a lot of time outside of the UK each year, income protection might be offered on non-standard terms, often resulting in a higher premium.
When applying for income protection, aim to get the policy set up as an ‘own occupation’ definition. This provides the strongest claims coverage if you’re unable to work, as it assesses your ability to perform your specific job role.
Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.
