Life insurance for people going to Japan should be available at normal terms, with most UK insurers.
To double check this for you our advisers will ask you:
- When are you travelling to Japan?
- How long will you be there for?
- Are you going to Japan for a holiday or work?
If you plan on staying in Japan for more than 30 days at a time, the insurer that you approach for life lnsurance may ask you for a few more details about your travel. You could be asked why you plan on being in Japan for so long and the activities you will be doing whilst there.
You may find that your life insurance is offered at non-standard terms if you work in a high risk occupation or take part in high risk sports.
Our advisers are here to find the life insurance policy for you, to give you peace of mind that your loved ones will be financially secure if you pass away.
If you plan on travelling to Japan to take advantage of the natural environment that perfectly lends itself to mountaineering, whitewater rafting and diving, then take a look at our specialised sports pages.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover can often be arranged at normal terms when you travel to Japan. General holiday vacations and short business trips will cause little concern to the insurers, when your journey lasts less than 30 days.
For journeys to Japan lasting longer than 30 days, it is possible that the insurer will ask you for additional information about the purpose of your trip to the country.
As with life insurance, if you plan on going to Japan to take part in extreme sports, then you will need to fully discuss your activities in your critical illness application.
Depending upon the insurer that you approach you could be looking at non-standard terms for critical illness cover, if the sports you take part in are deemed to be of a high risk nature.
Our adviser will find the best critical illness policy for you to match your travel.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection will typically be available at normal terms when you travel to Japan for short-stays. The insurer will ask you about your occupation and specific work tasks, and will be particularly interested if your journey to Japan is related to your work.
If you are going to Japan for work purposes you may be asked about the amount of time that you will be required to be outside of the UK in any given year, due to your work. Depending upon the amount of time that you spend abroad and the nature of your occupation, it is possible that income protection will be offered at non-standard terms. In this case this would most likely be a premium increase.
When applying for income protection aim to get the policy set up on an ‘own occupation’ definition. This will give you access to the strongest claims definition if you are unable to work, specifically assessing your ability to work against the job role that you do.
Our advisers will do all the research to make sure that your travel and occupation match with the income protection policy that you need.
