Ghana & Life Insurance

GhanaLife insurance for travellers to Ghana may be available on standard terms if your trip is short-term — typically a holiday of less than 30 days or a business trip of under a week

To check your life insurance options we will ask you:

  • When are you travelling to Ghana?
  • Is your trip for work, visiting family, or a holiday?
  • How long will you be staying?

If you plan multiple trips per year or you stay longer than 30 days, some insurers may offer you life insurance with non-standard terms or even decline your application. The key thing here is that this is with some insurers, not all. Insurers will pay close attention to the purpose of your visit and your specific destination within Ghana.

Additionally, if you have travelled to Ghana frequently recently or stayed in the country for a long period of time, some insurers may need you to have a blood test before approving your life insurance application.

Our award winning advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover for people travelling to Ghana is assessed similarly to life insurance. If your trip is a short holiday, you may be able to get life insurance on standard terms. This means that there is no increase on your premium and there are no exclusions on your policy.

Insurers frequently change their policies based on the perceived risks of travelling to different countries. The terms you receive will depend on Ghana’s risk rating at the time of your application.

If you visit Ghana regularly or stay for more than 30 days at a time, insurers may offer critical illness cover with non-standard terms, and some may decline your critical illness cover application altogether.

Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

If you’re travelling to Ghana, income protection may be available on standard terms, depending on the purpose and duration of your stay.

Insurers will pay particular attention if your trip is work-related. If you plan to stay for more than 30 days or make multiple trips within a year, you may face higher premiums or potential be declined income protection with some insurers.

Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.
