ColombiaColombia has a rich environment and vibrant culture that makes it a popular holiday destination. Being a big exporter in the world economy it is also a key place for people to travel for work.

When you apply for life insurance our advisers will ask you:

  • When are you planning on travelling to Colombia?
  • How long will you stay in Colombia for?
  • Why are you travelling to Colombia?

If you are visiting Colombia for a short period of time such as for a holiday or to visit family your application should be accepted at normal terms.

Life insurance for people travelling to Colombia for work may be available at normal terms depending upon the insurer that you approach. Things like your working duties whilst you are in Colombia will be a key factor in the terms for life insurance that you are offered. For people visiting the country for infrequent short-term business trips it is possible that life insurance could be available at standard terms.

For journeys lasting more than 30 days the insurer may apply non-standard terms to your cover.

It is also possible that some insurers may ask you to undergo a Hepatitis and HIV test if you have been to the country extensively in the past, before they will fully consider your application for life insurance.

Our advisers are here to make sure that the right insurer is chosen for you, so that you can get your life insurance as easily as possible.

If you are an offshore worker you may find our dedicated page for your occupation useful to read.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover for people planning to visit Colombia will be reviewed in a similar way to life insurance. The insurer will want to know how often you plan on travelling to the country, how long the duration of your stay will be and your purpose for travel e.g. leisure, business.

Short-term trips will often have little bearing on your application and you will typically be able to get normal terms of cover.

Where the trips are frequent and/or you will be staying in the country for more than 30 days at any one time, the insurance provider may decide to offer critical illness cover at special terms.

Special terms usually means a premium increase, but if you are travelling for what the insurer thinks is high risk work, some insurers might put an occupational exclusion on the claims. This is why using advisers like us is so important because we know which insurer will be right for you.

As with life insurance, if you have previously spent time in Colombia you may be asked to submit to a Hepatitis and HIV test before your application can be fully processed.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection for people travelling to Colombia may be available at standard terms. This will often depend upon the amount of time you will spend in the Colombia, how often you intend to travel there in the next couple of year and if the journey is related to your occupation.

As with the insurances discussed above, income protection may be available at standard terms if your trips to Colombia are infrequent and are short-term.

For people that regularly travel to Colombia or stay in the country for more than 30 days at a time, it is possible that the insurer will choose to offer non-standard terms.

Our advisers will find the right income protection policy for you, to provide you the with financial security if you are ill and cannot work.

Literally the reason we have insurance at a reasonable rate. Annaliese was absolutely fantastic, making us both feel at ease and helping us navigate issues that had caused us problems with previous attempts to obtain insurance. She liaised with the insurer and sorted out some issues that looked problematic on paper and would have affected our premiums, but were actually very minor in reality. Overall she was very helpful and pleasant to talk to and the service provided was superb. - 5
