Life insurance when you travel to Canada is usually offered at normal terms for leisure and business trips.
When you speak to one of our advisers we will check with you:
- When you are travelling to Canada
- The reason for your trip to Canada
- How long you will be in Canada for
For short term holidays of less than 30 days to Canada you are likely to get normal terms for life insurance. For longer trips to Canada, it is possible that the insurer will want to know more details about the reason for your journey.
If you are planning to do a spot of rock climbing in The Rockies, insurers will need to know details of your you are doing. For more details please see our rock climbing page.
No matter your circumstances our adviser are here to find the right insurer for you.
Please visit our dedicated pages for offshore workers and military personnel, if you plan on going to Canada as part of your job role.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
When you are planning on travelling to Canada, you should be able to arrange critical illness cover at standard rates.
Whether you are visiting Canada as a tourist or for business purposes, the majority of insurers will not be bothered by journeys of less than 30 days.
If you are going to Canada for more than 30 days at a time, you may find that you are asked more details about the purpose of your trip and your intended activities whilst in the country.
Offshore workers and sports enthusiasts planning on travelling to Canada, may need to place their critical illness applications with specific insurance providers who look upon the working tasks and hobbies favourably. High risk occupations and sports could lead the insurer to offer critical illness cover at non-standard terms.
Our advisers will make sure that the critical illness contract that you get suits your travel. Get in touch to find out more.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection is likely to offered at normal terms for people who plan on travelling to Canada. General leisure holidays to Canada are unlikely to have an impact upon the terms of income protection on offer.
The insurer will be interested in whether the journey to Canada is part of your job role, and if so, you could be asked for more information regarding your specific work tasks in the country and how often you will be required to travel outside of the UK in any given year.
Depending upon your specific occupational duties it is possible that offshore workers may need to be selective as to the insurer that they approach for income protection. Working in a hazardous environment or performing high-risk tasks could lead to the insurer offering income protection at special terms.
Our advisers are here to research the UK insurance market to find an income protection policy that will do what you need it to do.
