Luge & Life Insurance

Luge & Life InsuranceLuge is an exciting sport that requires a lot of skill to get the hang of. Enjoying luge on holiday is unlikely to impact your life insurance application.

However, certain aspects of the sport may be viewed as riskier by insurers, so it’s always a good idea to check how an insurer sees your luge activities before you apply.

To double check your life insurance options our advisers will ask you:

  • How often are you participating in luge?
  • Where are you luging?
  • Are you luging solo or as a couple?
  • Are you taking part in any competitions?
  • Are you taking part in street luge or winter luge?

Life insurance for lugers can potentially be available with some insurers in the UK. Most insurer in the UK will ask about the sports that you do and luge isn’t usually listed, but you need to watch out for the question ‘Any other extreme sport?’

Luge is seen as an extreme sport and even if the insurer doesn’t specifically state it in their question set, you should check if it falls into this specific question. Our advisers speak directly with life insurance underwriters and we can let you know early on, if taking part in luge is going to affect your insurance options.

For insurers that do class luging as an extreme sport you will likely find that your policy premiums are increased. Picking the right insurer is absolutely key for you.

If you are competing in luge events, the life insurance application may need to be submitted to a specialist provider who can consider cover for you.

Our award winning advisers will find the best life insurance to meet your needs.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

If you take part in competitive luge, you will likely need to apply with specific insurers for your critical illness cover.

Critical illness policies may include exclusions related to sports, or premiums could increase significantly depending on the insurer’s guidelines.

Our expert advisers will find the right insurer and best critical illness policy to match you and your hobby.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection for lugers may be available at normal terms with some insurers, meaning no premium increases or exclusions related to luge. This is very specialist and not the norm, most insurers will place exclusions on your income protection policy.

If you’ve recently had issues like a broken ankle, back pain, or a muscle injury, these can also lead to exclusions on claims related to those areas. While exclusions may not sound ideal, they can sometimes be reviewable, and you will still be covered for many other situations.

Our advisers will make sure that you are offered the best terms possible for income protection.

There are some insurance policies that allow you to earn rewards and reduce your policy premium, if you are fit and active.

Being a luger is a perfect match to the way that the insurer monitors your fitness levels, so that you can access these benefits.

Are you going abroad to take part in luge events? It’s a good idea to make sure that your travel insurance doesn’t have exclusions for luging. We suggest speaking with a specialist travel insurance broker. You can find more details on our travel insurance page.
