Zookeepers & Life Insurance
Every year we go to Chester Zoo with out boys, they absolutely love it. I’m pretty sure my eldest is going to work with animals when he is older and I’m rather jealous.
Life insurance for zookeepers is generally accepted at standard rates. Working with animals is not considered to be high risk in most situations as you have so many safe guards in place.
If your work frequently takes you abroad, you will need to provide details to the insurer, who will consider the amount of time you spend outside the UK each year and the locations you travel to when underwriting your cover.
Our advisers will need to ask you:
- What are your job duties?
- If you work takes you outside the UK, how long are you away for?
- Where do you work abroad?
- How often does your work take you abroad per year?
Insurers understand that there is a huge range of different risk when it comes to working with animals. You might be working with lions, elephants, rhinos or you could be looking after aardvarks, penguins and sloths (sloths are a personal favourite of mine).
Most of the time you should be able to get standard terms for life insurance, but you might find that some insurers ask more questions and change their offer of terms if you work is particularly high risk.
Our advisers are here to help you find the right insurer to match your circumstances, to get you the best terms possible.
Zookeepers & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover for zookeepers is typically accepted at standard terms. Similar to life insurance, the insurer you approach will need to know whether you spend a lot of time outside of the UK because of your job.
Our expert advisers will find the right critical illness policy to match your work.
Zookeepers & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection for zookeepers is offered by several insurers, and it’s important to ensure that the policy terms include an ‘own occupation’ definition. This means that if you become unable to work due to incapacity, you will be assessed based on your ability to work as a zookeeper. Other definitions of income protection may assess your ability to perform similar jobs or any job at all, which could make it harder to claim.
To find the right insurer for you, they will typically ask:
- How many hours do you work each week?
- How is your time divided between manual work, administration, and supervision?
- Have you previously had any accidents or injuries at work?
Income protection comes with a deferment period which is the time you must be ill and signed off from work, before the financial support from the policy kicks in. When choosing your deferment period, you need to think about how long you could cover your living expenses without your income, taking into account any employment benefits and savings you have.
Our advisers recommend income protection for people every day and we will be able to let you know exactly what you can have. Get in touch today for a no obligation quotation.
