Viral Hepatitis & Life Insurance
We understand that being diagnosed with hepatitis can sometimes come as a surprise or be an emotional time. Our experienced advisers will help as best they can to find something which best suits your needs.
In order to help you to get the right policy, we’ll need to know a few key things. These include:
- When were you diagnosed with hepatitis?
- What type of hepatitis were you diagnosed with?
- What treatments did you need?
- Have you had any lasting liver damage?
Life insurance when you have had hepatitis can be relatively simple provided that you have fully recovered from the condition and there are no lasting complications with the liver. If this is the case and you have no other disclosures on your application it is likely that your policy will be accepted at standard terms straight away.
For those who still have hepatitis or have developed chronic hepatitis the insurer will want to develop an understanding of how much your health is affected by the condition. Any secondary conditions that you have will also need to be detailed to the insurer so that they can get a clear picture of your overall health. In these circumstances you will generally find that any offer of insurance that you are given will come with a higher policy premium to offset the added risk presented by the hepatitis.
Please use the link below to get specific guidance as to how different types of hepatitis are treat for insurance purposes.
Viral Hepatitis & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover for those who have had hepatitis should also be quite standard to arrange provided that you have fully recovered and there is no lasting liver damage. As hepatitis is generally an acute condition that results in a lifelong resistance once fully recovered, insurers will often offer critical illness cover at normal terms. Please see the list of conditions below to establish how hepatitis is viewed by insurers.
Critical illness cover for those with acute or chronic hepatitis will need to be arranged with a specialist insurer.
Viral Hepatitis & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Applying for income protection when you have had hepatitis should be pretty straightforward. If you have fully recovered and have no lasting implications with the liver then income protection will typically be available at standard terms.
For those who still have hepatitis you will need to apply specifically for short-term income protection policies. Whilst you should be eligible for this type of policy the insurer will review your cover on a case by case basis. They will be particularly interested in whether the hepatitis has caused any time off work. You will find that any offer of income protection that you are given will come with an exclusion to any claim that is related to hepatitis.
