Stomach Cancer & Life Insurance
Being diagnosed with cancer is often and shock and it is quite common to think about your financial security. You may want to start thinking about life insurance.
The best life insurance policies often need you to give detailed information about your medical history, including your cancer. We understand that discussing your cancer can be difficult, and our advisers are trained to support you through this process.
To get things started we will ask you:
- When were you diagnosed with stomach cancer?
- How many times have you had stomach cancer?
- What was the stage of the cancer?
- What was the grade of the cancer?
- What treatment did you undergo (e.g. chemotherapy or radiotherapy)?
- Are you fully recovered and free of treatment?
- When did you last receive treatment?
We need to ask you these questions as each of them will help us select the most suitable insurer and life insurance policy for you.
If your stomach cancer was detected and treated in its early stages, you might be eligible for life insurance under normal terms, depending upon how long ago you received your diagnosis and ended your treatment.
However, as stomach cancer is often not diagnosed until the later stages, many people require intensive treatments and possibly surgery. For people who have had higher staging stomach cancer it is likely that insurers will want to see a number of years before they can consider your application. That’s not a definite so it is always worth checking, but it’s likely that your premiums for life insurance will be increased due to you having had stomach cancer.
You may find that some insurers might not accept your application, the key bit here is ‘some’ insurers, not all of them.
Our expert advisers are to make sure that your life insurance policy is placed with the best insurer for you.
Stomach Cancer & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
You may be able to get critical illness cover, but it’s likely that the policy will come with certain exclusions.
These exclusions could specifically target stomach cancer or it could be a full cancer exclusion. A full cancer exclusion is a big exclusion to have on critical illness cover, so it’s crucial to find out if this policy suits your needs.

Stomach Cancer & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
You might be able to get income protection after having stomach cancer, once a few years have passed since your diagnosis and any intense treatment has ended.
Your options for income protection will depend on the staging and grading of the stomach cancer you had. If you are currently working reduced hours while recovering, this could also influence the most suitable insurance and insurer for you.
Our advisers are here to make sure that you get the best insurance policy to protect your income.
