Liver Transplant & Life Insurance
When you get a liver transplant, you’re probably feeling a whirlwind of emotions— hope and worry all at once.
You might also start thinking about your family’s future if things don’t go smoothly during the surgery and recovery.
We’re here to help you figure out if life insurance is something you should consider having, just in case.
To get things started we will ask you:
- When did the transplant happen?
- Why did you need the transplant?
- How are you feeling now? Are you fully recovered?
- Has there been any sign of rejection?
- What is your most recent LFT reading?
If you’ve had a liver transplant, you might have to wait at least a year before getting life insurance on the standard market. But don’t worry, there are some special insurance options available during that time.
The insurance company will want to know all about your health history, including why you needed the transplant, when it happened, and how you’re doing now. They’ll also want to make sure your liver is working well and that there are no complications.
Our expert advisers are to make sure that your life insurance policy is placed with the best insurer for you.
Liver Transplant & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Standard insurance companies don’t offer critical illness cover at the moment for people that have had a liver transplant. But don’t worry, there are specialist policies out there that you might be able to access, although many of them won’t cover issues related to your liver.
Our award winning advisers are here to make sure that you get the right insurer to match you and your health.
Liver Transplant & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Currently, standard insurance companies don’t offer income protection for people that have had a liver transplant.
An alternative to this is Accident, Sickness, and Unemployment Cover. This kind of policy can give you short-term income in the event of sickness, disability or involuntary redundancy for between 12 and 24 months.
The policy is not medically underwritten, meaning that they won’t ask about your liver transplant when you sign up. The claims process however is medically underwritten, so that in the event of submitting a claim, they’ll check your medical history, with the majority not covering existing medical conditions at the time of a claim.
Our advisers are here to make sure that you get the best insurance policy to protect your income.

“Brilliant service. Alan and team very helpful getting me income protection cover. When my current Broker couldn't get me cover (due insurance companies he used wouldnt cover me ) he past over to Alan at Cura. We had first phone call to discuss my options then quotes where sent over via email for me look at with different options available to me.
