Cavernoma & Life Insurance
When you are diagnosed with a cavernoma there are a lot of things to consider. Some people find that they start to wonder if they need life insurance and if it they will be able to get it.
Our expert advisers have helped many people that have cavernomas to understand the best way for them to get life insurance.
To get things started we will ask you:
- When were you diagnosed with a cavernoma?
- Do you have a brain cavernoma or spinal cavernoma?
- What treatment have you had for the cavernoma?
- Are there any plans to do surgery to remove the cavernoma?
- Have you needed radiotherapy to treat the cavernoma?
- Have you had any haemorrhages from the cavernoma?
The options that you have for life insurance will significantly depend upon where the cavernoma is located, the size of it and if it has been removed or not. The insurers will also want to know how many cavernomas you have and how much the they affect your ability to work or do day to day tasks. You can also find that there can be better options if you 45 years old or over.
Depending upon the time since diagnosis, the size of the cavernoma and the treatment you have had, there is sometimes a potential to get life insurance at standard terms.
There is often more options for life insurance if you have had your cavernoma removed. It is quite likely that the insurer will increase the premium for you life insurance for some time after your surgery. Insurers like to make sure that you are fully healed from your surgery and that there have been checks to make sure that the cavernoma has not grown back.
It might be that the cavernoma is causing you no or hardly any symptoms and the plan from your medical team is to just keep an eye on things for now. Or it might that the cavernoma is in a place where surgery to remove it is not a good idea. If your cavernoma is still present then you will find that some insurers will not be able to offer you life insurance, this means that the life insurance is declined. Not all insurers will do this and we are here to make sure that your application for life insurance goes to an insurer who can support you.
Our expert advisers are to make sure that your life insurance policy is placed with the best insurer for you.
Cavernoma & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Arranging critical illness cover when you have a cavernoma can sometimes be harder to do than life insurance. This is because there are quite a few claimable conditions on a critical illness policy that could be caused by a cavernoma.
There is the potential that some insurers might offer critical illness cover at standard terms in some situations, but it is more likely that they will increase the premium for your policy.
If you have multiple cavernomas or the cavernomas have caused a stroke of the development of epilepsy, it is unlikely that you will be able to arrange critical illness cover with mainstream insurers.
Our award winning advisers are here to make sure that you get the right insurer to match you and your health.
Cavernoma & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection might be available to you depending upon how many cavernomas you have and any long lasting symptoms you have. Most insurers will place an exclusion on their income protection policy for any claims relating to the cavernomas.
If your cavernoma was surgically removed and follow-up checks have shown that it has not grown back, then it is possible that some insurers will be able to consider offering you income protection at standard terms in the future.
Our advisers are here to make sure that you get the best insurance policy to protect your income.

Hi, thank you for getting in touch, I’m sorry that you have not been able to get life insurance in the past. The options for life insurance are dependent upon quite a few things, especially the size and location of the cavernoma and if it is still present. Insurers do change their underwriting decisions every now and then, so it might be that life insurance wasn’t available in the past but is now.
