I can imagine what you are thinking right now. Musculosk…what? This is just a fancy word that groups together conditions that affect the body’s skeletal and/or muscular systems. A few that come to mind are arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, etc.
When you have one of these conditions you could be asked some of these questions when arranging insurance:
- What is the condition that you have?
- When were you diagnosed with the condition?
- What are your symptoms?
- Are you currently working?
- What medications do you take?
- Are you using any anti-TNF medication?
- Do you use any mobility aids?
For some conditions the insurer may arrange to see a report from your GP to confirm your health. These reports allow the insurer to get a clear picture of your medical history before your application is fully assessed.
Life Insurance – widely available, depending upon the condition that you have, you may be better applying to specific providers who view your condition favourably.
Critical Illness Cover – generally available, depending upon the condition you may need to place your policy with a specialist insurance provider.
Income Protection – limited options, for many conditions you may need to look at short-term income protection policies known as accident, sickness and unemployment cover.
Private Medical Insurance – generally available, most policies will exclude any claim relation to your condition.
