Can I get Life Insurance now that I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis?
In many occasions it is now possible to obtain life cover if you have multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis will need to be fully disclosed in your Life Insurance application to ensure that the insurance providers have a clear picture of the stage of your condition. By having this condition any Life Insurance application may result in an automatic requirement for a GP report from your doctor. This is often a necessity for you to get Life Insurance and will strengthen any claims for the benefit upon your death, as the insurance provider will not be able to dispute the severity of your condition at the time of application.
However, if you feel that you do not want to go through the hassle and extended application process of a GP report, there are some providers who can provide an instant acceptance for Life Insurance with multiple sclerosis. Whilst this will be a fast process it may result in a higher monthly premium than if you are able to wait for a more thorough assessment of your symptoms. It will also depend on the severity of your condition and your knowledge of it.
Most insurance providers are not concerned at the “type” of multiple sclerosis that you have. Their main concern is the severity and range of the symptoms that you are experiencing from the condition. If you are experiencing minor symptoms the minimal loading you will receive is a premium increase of 50% per month. If your symptoms are severe you may find that your monthly premium is increased by a minimum 200%.
It is very likely that the monthly premium of your policy will increase compared to the original quotation. Your insurance adviser should provide you with a provisional projection of what the policy will be rated to, but this can alter depending upon the results of your GP report. Your age, smoker status, occupation, family and personal medical history will also have an impact upon the monthly premium that you pay for the insurance.
How do I Apply for Life Insurance?
We strongly recommend that any application you make for Life Insurance with multiple sclerosis is done through a broker, who can offer the expertise and experience of insurance advisers familiar with your condition. Our insurance advisers will ensure that your application is completed thoroughly from the information that you provide to us, and then coordinate discussions between the insurance provider and your GP to get your Life Insurance set up as soon as possible.

Am I Eligible for Other Insurances?
Unfortunately due to your medical condition you will not be able to get Critical Illness Insurance or Income Protection Insurance. Multiple sclerosis can lead to symptoms of visual impairment, muscle spasms, pain, fatigue, depression, osteoporosis and muscular atrophy. Any of which could be cause for potential claims on Critical Illness, Total Permanent Disability or Income Protection. As such insurance providers place multiple sclerosis as a high risk in regards to these policies and will therefore not provide such insurances to you.
However, you can get Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Insurance despite your medical condition. With an Accident, Sickness and Unemployment policy your monthly premium will not increase because of your condition, but you will have multiple sclerosis and any direct link to the condition excluded from the policy.
Please feel free to use our simple online quotation system for Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover. You will not need to enter any medical information and will receive an instant quotation for cover. As you do have multiple sclerosis we would still recommend that you speak with one of our insurance advisers before you make your final decision.
