Recently I have been asked a few times about my thoughts on critical illness cover. Do I like the current offering? Are insurers making changes for the better?
The answer is a mix of yes and no. Critical illness cover can be an invaluable insurance policy, paying out a tax-free cash lump sum if you are diagnosed with a condition (at the specified severity) listed in your policy. In an ideal world I would love for every insurance policy to cover all conditions, without stipulation of severity, but that is not realistic. My thoughts are in the Financial Times Advisers latest CPD guide to critical illness here.
