Hi everybody. It is Stop Look Listen time, and today I want to focus on HIV.
Now HIV is a condition that has long had a stigma associated with it. And really, with modern medicine and treatment, nothing should be further from the truth, there should be no stigma associated with HIV.
Within the UK, the medications that can be put together for somebody who does have HIV, essentially means that after they’ve been taking that effective treatment for six months, the HIV virus pretty much becomes undetectable. It becomes dormant within them. That means that there is no way that they could pass it onto somebody else.
And also people get confused as to how you can potentially get HIV. So, HIV can be passed on through, non-undetectable, or active HIV virus in somebody through semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk, blood, and rectal secretions. You can’t get it simply by touching somebody, or kissing, saliva isn’t going to pass it on. You can share kitchen utensils. It really isn’t the condition that a lot of people think it is.
If you are worried at all, that you may have possibly come into contact with the active HIV virus. Then, there are plenty of testing stations throughout the UK you can go for a single finger prick test, it’s really very, very simple. Very easy to do. And it’s something that I’ve even had done myself. And it really isn’t anything to worry about at all.
So, the main thing is, is that if you know somebody that does have HIV, don’t shy away from them, give them a massive hug, give ’em a kiss.
And honestly, there is nothing to worry about, at all.
