When you have epilepsy the insurer is going to ask some specific questions related to your condition.
Common questions include:
- What type of epilepsy do you have? Grand mal, petit mal, nocturnal?
- When were you diagnosed with epilepsy?
- Was there a specific cause for the epilepsy? Was it caused by a stroke?
- How often are your seizures?
- When was your last seizure?
- What medications do you take?
- Have you ever been hospitalised due to the epilepsy?
- Do you hold a valid driving license?
By answering these questions, the insurer can get a good idea, as to how the epilepsy impacts upon your health.
Life Insurance – widely available, may need to approach specialist providers if your symptoms are severe.
Critical Illness Cover – widely available, again you may nee to approach a specialist insurer if your condition is severe.
Income Protection – widely available, it is possible that the cover will be offered with an exclusion for claims related to epilepsy, or the premiums increased.
Private Medical Insurance – generally available, most policies will exclude claims related to epilepsy for at least a couple of years.
