Running & Life Insurance
Running is a great way to keep fit physically and mentally. I’m not particularly a runner but I’ve done a Breast Cancer 5k before and a Run or Dye event, they were fantastic.
Life insurance for runners should be available at normal terms with most insurers.
Your running might not pop up in the question set, but just in case our adviser will ask you:
- Are you doing any extreme endurance events?
- Are you running competitively?
If you are a professional runner you should also find that most insurers will offer you life insurance at standard terms.
The reason for knowing a bit more about endurance events is to do with the locations that you could travel to, to complete these. It’s very unlikely that there will be any issues arranging your life insurance but it’s always a good idea to check.
Our expert advisers will find the best life insurance policy for you.
Running & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness insurance for runners will also generally be available at standard terms. Insurers will be interested in your general health and medical history to assess your insurance application.
Professional runners are likely to get critical illness cover at normal terms with many insurers. You may however find that Total and Permanent Disability is not offered or an exclusion placed on it for any running related claims. These policies usually come with at least 60 conditions that you are covered for and whilst an exclusion on one won’t feel great, there are still many situations you are covered for.
Our award winning advisers will find the right insurer to get you the best critical illness cover.
Running & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection for runners will typically be available at normal terms.
If you have had any injuries in the past you can find that the insurer might put exclusions on the policy. An example of this is a recent sprained ankle. You can find if you’ve experienced this that your income protection policy will not cover claims relating to that ankle for a while.
Professional runners will need to place their income protection with a specialist insurer who can consider the cover. Professional sportspeople are reviewed more closely for income protection policies as the very nature of your occupation places you at a higher risk of injury that can cause significant periods of time off work while you recuperate.
Our expert advisers will find the best income protection policy to match you and exercise.
Running & Healthy Living Insurance
There are some insurance policies that allow you to earn rewards and reduce your policy premium, if you are fit an active.
Being a runner is a perfect match to the way that the insurer monitors your fitness levels, so that you can access these benefits.

Common Questions
Insurers have the set basic premiums that they offer in different situations. As an example, everyone that is age 26, a non-smoker, a BMI in normal ranges and no risk factors would have access to the same price for things like life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection.
Some insurers ask about your activity levels and will take into account how much you are exercising when they assess your application, but it will not reduce your premium lower than this basic premium with most UK insurers.
There is an insurer that can give you lower premiums if you are active, but you must choose their specific healthy living insurance policy to access this. You can earn rewards from recording your exercise with them and it can be a really good option. But you also need to be aware that if you stop exercising your premiums can go up.
