As a parent and an adviser I understand the value of protection for my family very well. I have children who are highly dependent on both my income and that of my wife. If either of us were to pass away the surviving partner would certainly struggle financially if we did not have Life Cover to protect us.
For myself and my wife I chose our cover as a level lump sum, this way we would have enough money to pay off the mortgage and have a reasonable sum left over to help with general living costs such as childcare and other bills. We could have just as easily chosen a decreasing plan to protect our mortgage and a Family Income Plan (which pays a monthly income) to provide further financial support. There are often many ways to structure protection for a family and it can usually be accomplished in some manner or other within a set budget.
As a new parent, looking at Life Insurance can be a daunting prospect with many advisers wanting to recommend you cover that costs as much as your mortgage. The truth is that you can dictate your budget so if you do not want to spend more than £20pm then you do not have to. If you would like to speak to an adviser who understands what it is like to be a new parent who wants the best for their children’s future without spending a small fortune, then please feel free to call us and see how we can help.
As a separate note Aviva have been running a Free Life Insurance for New Parents campaign. You can apply for the Life Insurance here. They simply ask for your name, date of birth and address, and they will provide you with £10,000 free life cover for the first year of your baby’s life *. This does not impact upon any other Life Cover you take out and should not substitute the need for a full Life Insurance policy but since it is free it is worth looking at.
*Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria apply, please see their website for details.
