Legal & General have decided to enter the competition with Aviva to provide free Life Insurance for new parents. For those with children under one years of age Legal & General will provide each parent with £10,000 of free Life Insurance for 12 months.

You can apply for the policy:

If you are between 18 and 45 years of age
Are named on the birth certificate
Your child is exactly 1 year old or under 12 months of age

As we stated in our previous article regarding the Aviva new parent cover this does really sound to good to be true. The fact is though that the offer is a genuine and legitimate free Life Insurance policy that can be taken out by the majority of parents.

How will this work with the Aviva New Parent cover?

There are a few ways to make the two covers work together:

You can take out both the Aviva and Legal & General free Life Insurance when your child is born. This means that for a two parent family you will have £40,000 of free Life Insurance for the first 12 months of your childs life.
You can take out the Aviva free Life Insurance when your child is born and follow this with applying for the Legal & General free Life Insurance for your child just before or on their first birthday. This will mean that a two parent family will have £20,000 of free Life Insurance for approximately the first two years of the childs life.

Will this Life Insurance be added onto my existing cover with Legal & General?

You are not eligible for the cover if you have taken out a Legal & General policy within the last five years. Separately, it is also important to note the the policy will not pay a claim if you die within the policy term from a condition that was present within the 12 months prior to the policy starting.

How do I apply?

Applying for the cover takes a couple of minutes filling in a form online that requires your name, date of birth, address and email. The process is extremely simple and you can download your policy schedule once the forms are completed.
