Engineers & Life Insurance
Life insurance for many engineers is likely to be available at normal terms with most insurance providers.
There are some specific questions that we will ask you about your role:
- Do you work with heavy machinery?
- Are you based in the UK or do you travel abroad for your work?
- Do you work offshore?
- How much of your working week is manual, admin or supervisory tasks?
The insurer will also be interested in any details if you work at heights or potentially as part of military operations.
Where your occupational duties are seen as quite risky by insurers you may need to direct your life insurance application to an insurer who looks at work favourably.
Our advisers are trained on how to find the best insurer for you, please get in touch for your no obligation quotation.
Engineers & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness insurance for engineers will typically be available at standard terms with many insurers.
If you work offshore or perform high risk duties it is possible that the insurance provider may choose to exclude total and permanent disability from the policy claims set. This is a small aspect of the policy cover and should not detract from the many conditions that will be covered by the policy; typically a minimum of 50 conditions.
Engineers & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection for engineers may be available at normal terms depending your specific circumstances.
The insurer will want to know if you are based in the UK, if there is work-related travel abroad, your occupational duties and if you have had any significant period of time off work due to ill health or injury.
You should aim to secure an ‘own occupation’ income protection policy as this will pay a claim if you are unable to perform your job as an engineer. Other definitions of income protection, suited or any occupation, are more difficult to place a successful claim on.
Engineers applying for income protection will need to choose a deferment on the policy of 1 day, 1 week, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 13 weeks, 26 weeks or 52 weeks. This period is the amount of time that you must wait before you will receive a claim payout. When you are making your decision as to which of these options to go for you should consider any employment benefits, savings and budget that you have for the cover.
Our financial advisers regularly provide advice as to what combination of income protection best suits your individual circumstances.
