Lung Cancer & Life InsuranceWhen you have had lung cancer you can find that getting life insurance needs some extra research. Insurers have different rules about the way that they assess a person’s application for life insurance, and this is where our advisers will help you. Our award winning advisers will ask you about your lung cancer, research the insurance market and then let you know the best option for life insurance for you. We will ask you:
  • When were you diagnosed with lung cancer?
  • What type of lung cancer did you have?
  • What was the staging and grading of your lung cancer?
  • What treatments did you have?
  • Are you waiting for any lung surgery?
  • Are you a smoker?
When you apply for life insurance the staging and grading of your lung cancer and how long ago you were diagnosed, will be key factors in choosing the right insurer for you. If your lung cancer was found in the very early stages it might be that you are able to get life insurance at standard rates, after some time has passed since diagnosis. The higher the staging and grading of your lung cancer, the more likely it is that your life insurance will be offered at what is known as non-standard terms. This means that the insurer increases the premium that you will pay, compared to someone else. If this happens it’s essential to keep reviewing your life insurance as the longer you are from diagnosis, the more favourable your options for insurance will be. If you are a smoker it is quite likely that you will need to apply for life insurances through more specialist options. These types of life insurance will usually exclude claims relating to lung cancer for at least 2 years. Our expert advisers will give you a clear idea as to the right life insurance for you, so that you can have peace of mind.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover can sometimes be available for people that have had lung cancer. This is most likely if your lung cancer was a low staging and grading and you are not a smoker.

If you are able to get critical illness cover the insurers will probably increase the policy premiums above the standard rate.

You will also find that some insurers will not be able to offer you critical illness cover. That’s why our advisers are here to search the market for you and make sure you get a clear picture of what is possible.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health

There can be options for income protection after you have had lung cancer, if the cancer was caught early. The insurers are unlikely to accept your application if you are a smoker.

For income protection if your lung cancer was low staging and grading, you might be able to get standard terms of cover once some time has passed.

If you find that income protection through mainstream insurers isn’t available, there are more specialised policies that we can look at. You tend to find with more specialist policies that they can exclude claims for conditions that you have recently had, so your time of diagnosis and end of treatment is essential to pick the right one.

Our award winning advisers know how to find the right income protection policy for you.
